~ Gearskin Bivy ~
You could
lay your gear in first like this:
Using a bivy this
time with sleeping bag, pad and some clothing inside.
Lay food, cooking
gear, filter etc. on top of bivy like so.
Fold in half.
Position on gearskin...
and snap around
bivy.
Jacket, pack cover
and other gear can be stuffed between the gearskin and the bivy
"bundle" as you would use a beavertail.
Water bottles
and such attach under side or top straps.
Essentially the function of a pocket without, material, zippers,
weight or hassle.
Choices are endless
as to how you can pack and access your gear
The beauty is
that even when your shelter, sleeping bag and pad are "packed"
you still have an empty pack for the rest of your gear.
This creates a
smaller load with the heavier items, like food, positioned closer
to your center of gravity.
This causes less
fatigue and more enjoyment at the end of the day.
It's like strapping
a big pillow on your back.
